10-10-26 - Delaware

“There are more registered corporate entities and shell companies in Delaware than there are actual human residents.”

Whenever I think of Delaware, which like Connecticut, is just about never, I do not think of music.  I'm slightly familiar with the place because our nephew got his PhD there at UD.  We visited a couple of times but didn't get much of a feel for the state in general.  Now that he's graduated and moved on, I'm back to not thinking much about Delaware.  It is often referred to as the Chemical Capital of the World because it is home to major chemical manufacturers of pharmaceuticals, industrial and plastics.  You gotta be known for something, and music for Delaware is not one of those somethings.

Best Band: Honestly, I got nuthin'.

Best Solo Artist:  The best known musician from Delaware, period, behind only Cab Calloway, is George Thorogood.  George has been hammering out his raw, slide guitar thunder boogie anthems for fifty some years now.  He and his roadhouse outfit, the Destroyers (for Delaware Destroyers) have released 20 albums, two of which that have gone platinum.  Need we say, that George is the only Delaware musician that's Bad to the Bone?

Wildcard: Singer/Songwriter Antjie Devekot was born in Germany but moved to the U.S. when she was 13, Delaware specifically.  She attended the University of DE and started playing gigs around campus while she was there.  She never stopped and since 2002, she's released  nine albums and made a name for herself in the folky songwriter world.
