“I don't even know what a Connecticut accent is.”
- Dorit Kemsley
Whenever I think of Connecticut, which is… never…but, if I were to think of Connecticut, not much would come to mind. They have good college basketball teams. Mark Twain died there. It's where the hamburger was invented, so they claim. I wouldn't think of music, that's for sure. Do they have music in Connecticut? I had to look it up. What do you know, the state has produced a handful of musical talents. It also produced Moby…so, major points against it for that.
I kid Connecticut because, why wouldn't I? But I will say this, our good and kind friend Robin is from there, and if she's representative of the state's population, it must be an okay place.
Best Band: The Carpenters. The Carpenter siblings, Richard and Karen, were born in Connecticut but the family moved to California in when the brother and sister were young. We're going to give them to Connecticut since the state's pool of talent is pretty paltry, otherwise. They weren't hip but they were a force, cranking out hit after hit, propelled by Richard's arranging chops and Karens unique vocal talent. Their most recognizable songs were written by others, but the Carpenters put their own stamp on them and turned them into classics. Karen lived a trouble life and died in a sad way when she was 32.
Best Solo Artist: No challenge here, John Mayer. He's a gifted guy, what can you say. Great songwriter, massively talented guitar player, smooth singer, and chronic ladies man. He's almost 50 now. Can that be?
Wildcard: MGMT - A couple of fellows from Middletown that have been around for twenty-plus years now. Indie, synth-pop stuff, mainly.
