It's 49 years old, but Fleetwood Mac's album, Rumours currently stands at #3 on Billboard's Top 100 Rock Albums. Isn't that remarkable? Of all the rock albums that still chart, Rumours, by far, has consistently ranked at the top of the list. It has broad, multi-generational appeal, apparently. Boomers, Gen-X, Millennials, Gen-Z, all seem to love it. Why, do you suppose? My guess is because it's a near perfect piece of art. Top to bottom, the songs are fantastic, they vary in style, and the musicianship is unparalleled. But, that could describe a lot of albums by a lot of groups. It was a lightning strike, an alchemy that could never be reproduced. It was either that or dumb luck…and Stevie Nicks.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees for 2026 were announced today. I'm sorry, this is just a bone of contention with me. Nothing against Luther Vandross or Sade as artists and musicians, but are they what anyone would call Rock and Roll? And they get in over a deserving and actual rock and roll band like The Black Crowes? I realize, the term rock and roll is broad and imprecise, but…come on!
