Happy birthday today to my friend Jeff Pickett. He's the creator of this website and the two phenomenal videos you see at the top of site. He and I were running buddies from the first time we met in 7th grade all the way through high school and beyond. As often happens, we lost touch for a good chunk of time. It's good to have reconnected.
As for our growing up years, I'll just say, boy, could I tell you some stories. I've told some of them to people from time to time and their reactions tell it all. Incredelous. In the age we live in now, it's hard for people to conceive of the freedoms kids had back then. We were as a generation…very loosely supervised.
Jeff and I owned a hay hauling business for a time through high school, picking up hay for local farmers in the summer. Jeff and our mutual buddy, Bill, started the business and I worked with them for a time. When Bill went off to the navy, I bought his half. Lots of memories out there in the fields of northeast Missouri. We had an 8-track player in the truck (does that date things for you?). We'd blast tunes to make the time go by. I can never hear this one without thinking of those days.
