“Our danger is not too few, but too many options…to be puzzled by innumerable alternatives.”
- Richard Livingstone
Recently, I saw mention of a new comedy coming out on TV. It's called American Classic and stars Kevin Kline. It got a rave review. I'm always on the lookout for a good comedy and I've long been a fan of his work. It sounds like a winner. I'll check it out, I thought.
It's not that simple anymore. For anything you might want to see you now have to play the “where's it at and do I have that?” game. Where was American Classic going to be viewable? Was it on NBC, CBS, ABC, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Paramount+, Peacock, HBO Max, Hulu, AppleTV, Disney, YouTube, AMC+…?…Nope, none of those. It's on MGM+
Maybe they'll make a comedy about a guy who is institutionalized after he goes mental from too many societal choices, everything from genders to pickles to streaming services.
There was a British show called The Detectorists. I've mentioned it before. Kendra and I loved it. I think it was shown in America on Netflix. Mackenzie Crooks, its creator and star has a brand new show called Small Prophets. It too has received great praise. Oh, boy! Where to watch? BBC iPlayer only, except, it was available on YouTube. Great, we watched the first two episodes. It's going to be a good series. We go back for the third, “No longer available.” I quote Charlie Brown, “ARRRRGHHHH!”
On a different note, on this day in 1996, Alanis Morissette swept pretty much all the categories at the Juno Awards (Canada's version of the Grammys) for her record Jagged Little Pill. Best Album, Best Single, Best Female Singer, Best Songwriter. Given the force of nature she was then, I remember thinking at the time that in a few years there'd be a bunch of girls around named Alanis, christened by mother's who worshipped the singer when they were teens. I've yet to run across one, though.
