Today is the birthday of middle sibling, Daniella Haim, of the sister trio band Haim. She's 37 today. Haim, the band, they're something I like to call GOOD. They're a special act of talented musicians, I think.
Daniella is most often the lead vocalist, but they all share in those as well as swapping around on instruments. Este is the oldest, 39, and Alana, the youngest, 34.
I first started paying attention to them when Alana starred in the movie, Licorice Pizza (2021) with the late Phillip Seymour Hoffman's son, Cooper Hoffman.
Some people have a magnetic screen power that instantly draws you to them in a movie. Alana Haim possess that quality in my mind. Licorice Pizza was her first acting role ever and to have the kind of screen presence to carry a film like that was remarkable to me. When it was over I said out loud, “That girl's gonna be a star.”
That movie, Licorice Pizza, is set in the 1970s. If you're around long enough, they make movies and TV shows that are set in past eras you lived through. That makes you someone with firsthand knowledge of the goings on in a “Period Piece”. People who weren't there are beginning to look at the 70s, 80s and 90s as interesting and nostalgic. I enjoy viewing these with a critical eye. How much did they get right? Most of the time they do a pretty good job. Occasionally, you'll see something glaringly wrong, though. We watched some of the first couple of seasons of Stranger Things. It's set in the 80s. They mostly did a good job but in one episode a character said some phrase, I can't recall what, that made the buzzer go off. "Nope," I said, “Not one person alive in the 1980s ever said that.”
It's a fun sport.
