11-26-25 - What's In a Name?

“Why do psychics have to ask you for your name?”

Here's a question, what is your favorite male Civil War name?  Boy, there are some good ones.  Unique names that have never come back in popularity.   Names for females from that era have stayed around and are still common today like Mary, Caroline, Emma, Elizabeth, Abigayle, Rose, Emily.  Go to any middle school and you'll find them all over the place.

The male names, though, now that's a different story.  How about Leonidas, Sylvannus, Clement, Zebulon, Lucius, Gouvernuer, Rememberance, Decamp, Purtice, Beauregard, Truelove, Tempest, Job, Blythe, Spurgeon and, of course, Ulysses.  I mean, those are names with some serious flair!  They're like poetry. My two favorites?  Jubal (Early) and Thurlow (Weed).  Come on!  How great are those?

I think we need bring some of those back.  Lets have a next generation of kindergarten classes full of boys named Elihu, Absalom, Vestal, Ambrose and Hiram. That would be splendid.

It's Tina Turner's birthday (1939-2023)
