“I never did very well in math. I could never persuade the teacher that I hadn't meant my answers literally.”
- Calvin Trillin
Boy, we've had some drummers in rock n roll, haven't we? They've run the gamut in personality and style. We've had the wild men like John Bonham and Keith Moon, the intellectuals like Neil Pert, the precision groovers like Jeff Porcaro and Steve Gadd and the odd syncopators like Stewart Copeland. I'm leaving a hundred out, obviously. I don't know enough, anything really, about drumming to comment on technical aspects. What I know is, for me, a drummer is like an umpire in baseball. If they're good at their job, you don't really notice they're there. If they're bad at it, you know immediately.
Yes, we've had everything imaginable in the pantheon of rock drummers, but until lately we haven't had anyone quite like Honey.
